n the years 1993 and 1995, the Caldwell brothers arrived at high school and, almost immediately, became the victims of a misunderstanding from which neither time, maturity, nor basic human decency would ever allow them to recover.

Upon being asked which junior school they had attended, the answer 'Cowan House' was misheard as 'cow and house'. Owing to a combination of the brothers’ highly pastoral coiffures, and the relentless commitment of teenage boys to an unremarkable joke, 'cow and house' devolved with alarming speed into 'sheep and shax'.

And there it remained, for three decades, unaffected by social progress, educational advancement, or repeated opportunities for civilisation to intervene.

In the years that followed, Shax gradually established himself as organiser, instigator and occasional survivor of social gatherings, expeditions and recreational undertakings of steadily declining supervision, eventually attaining the unofficial yet widely acknowledged rank of Doyen of Questionable Adventures.

It was therefore resolved, unanimously and without meaningful consultation, that he should at last be formally recognised as leader of an institution properly befitting his stature. Thus was established: The Order of the Rams.

An emblem was commissioned immediately, despite there being neither treasury, charter, nor legal standing of any kind.

The lion upon the crest represents Cowan House, where the story began. The fynbos signifies the gentlemen of the Cape. The hops represent the gentlemen of Gauteng and their sustained commitment to beer. The crown was included because it looked magnificent. And the sheep, following extensive deliberation by the committee, was deemed to bear a passing resemblance to Shax himself.

So let it be recorded in the official annals and archives of The Order that on this, the 15th day of May in the Year of Our Lord 2026, the founding members assembled and, with due ceremony and almost no administrative rigour whatsoever, established The Order of the Rams, appointing Shax Caldwell as Lifetime Chairman, Supreme Custodian of the Ram, and Final Protector of the post-match cooler box.
